South Africa – Transition to IEC 62368 Standard

South Africa - ICASA Resumes Type Approval Activities

The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) in South Africa, has approved the recognition of SANS/IEC 62368-1 test reports starting from April 1, 2021. Safety of electrical and electronic products is covered by the Compulsory Specification VC 8055 which refers to the acceptance of SANS/IEC 60950 or SANS/IEC 60065 test reports. NRCS is still in the process of releasing an amended version of VC 8055 with regards to the new standard.

As of April 1, 2021, there is no need to provide a declaration of equivalence to SANS/IEC 60065 and SANS/IEC 60950 when tests are carried out against IEC 62368-1 requirements to get safety type approval in South Africa.
