The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently seeking additional public input on the potential expansion and enhancement of terrestrial operations in the 12.2-12.7 GHz band, also known as the 12.2 GHz band. This initiative represents a unique opportunity to increase the robustness, diversity, and efficiency of this portion of the spectrum.
The FCC has highlighted a variety of possible applications for the 12.2 GHz band. These include one-way, point-to-point or point-to-multipoint fixed links at powers beyond the currently permitted Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service (MVDDS) rules, two-way, point-to-point fixed links at standard part 101 power limits, two-way, point-to-multipoint links, and indoor-only underlay on a licensed basis. The FCC is also considering unlicensed use of the band and expanded use through technology-based sharing using Automated Frequency Coordination, which could foster a more effective and efficient use of the spectrum.
To ensure a transparent, collaborative, and data-driven process, the FCC strongly encourages those interested to provide specific proposals and detailed technical data to support their suggestions.
