India – Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Issues Extension in Self Certification for Solar Inverters

On July 27, 2023, The Central Government of India issued an amendment to the “Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017”, via S.O. 2920 (E) dated 5.9.2017 for six products listed in the Schedule with an effective date of 5.9.2018. The order was modified via S.O. 5259(E), which was published in the Gazette of India on October 12th, 2018. And also, pursuant to S.O. 444(E) issued in the Indian Gazette on January 30, 2023, the self-certification period for SPV inverters (items 4-5) had been extended through June 30, 2023.

Due to limited testing facilities and requests for providing more time for compliance, the implementation of Quality Control Order, 2017 for SPV inverters (items 4-5) has been extended from June 30, 2023 to December 30, 2023 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, based on self-certification. Manufacturers are required to provide valid IEC certificates corresponding to IS (IS 16221(Part 2):2015/IEC 62109-2:2011 for item No. 4 and IS 16169:2014/IEC 62116:2013 for item No. 5).

The products currently extended for an additional 6 months are:

  • Power Inverters for use in Photovoltaic Power system
  • Utility-Interconnected Photovoltaic Inverters
