Brazil – ANATEL Published Official Letters Regarding New Safety Standard and New IPv6 Standard

Act No. 9960 ANATEL 2024

On December 14, 2023, ANATEL published new Official Letters regarding the new Safety Standard (Act 17087) and the new IPv6 standard (Act 7971).

Official Letter 463/2023 clarifies upcoming enforcement of the new Safety Standard Act 17087/2022, effective December 27, 2023. Key points:

  • Testing continuity for authorized labs: Laboratories previously qualified under Act 950 automatically retain testing authorization under Act 17087 until December 14, 2024, due to their similarities.
  • Temporary relief for visual inspections: ANATEL temporarily waives the laboratory’s obligation to perform visual inspections (outlined in Act 17087, item 11.2.1) for test reports issued before March 27, 2024. However, please note that the underlying safety requirement remains mandatory.

Official Letter 464/2023 streamlines the transition to the new Act 7971, ANATEL has authorized laboratories already qualified for IPv6 testing under the previous rules to conduct Act 7971-compliant tests until December 14th, 2024, due to their comparable technical requirements.
