Philippines – NTC Issues New Requirement for 6 GHz Devices: Modification of Type Approval Certificates

NTC MC No. 002-07-2024 RLANs

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines issued Memorandum Circular No. 002-07-2024 on July 5, 2024, formally allocating the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for Short Range Devices (SRDs). This move expands the usage of the 6 GHz band, opening up new opportunities for wireless communication technologies. However, with this update comes an important compliance requirement for manufacturers and device holders.

What You Need to Know About the New NTC Memorandum

On September 23, 2024, the NTC released an additional memorandum that directly impacts any entity holding Type Acceptance Certificates (TACs) or Grants of Equipment Conformity (GEC) for devices operating within the 6 GHz band. The memorandum advises that all previously certified equipment, approved before the issuance of NTC MC No. 002-07-2024, must undergo a certificate modification process.

Manufacturers and importers with existing TACs or GECs are required to apply for the modification of these certificates. The updated certificate will reflect the newly authorized 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for SRDs, while retaining the original NTC certificate number. This step ensures compliance with the expanded frequency allocation and ensures smooth market access for devices operating in this spectrum.
