On October 2, 2024, The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) announced modifications to the guidelines for using the IFT Seal on approved telecommunications and broadcasting products. These changes, set to come into effect on July 1, 2025, aim to streamline the implementation process and reduce compliance costs for manufacturers and distributors.
The Approval Guidelines were issued on December 29, 2021, and the Guidelines for the Use of the IFT Seal were initially issued on December 26, 2023. Between June 14 and August 12, 2024, IFT opened the floor for public consultation and the modifications are a response to industry feedback.
What’s New in the Guidelines?
The latest updates include several key enhancements aimed at modernizing and simplifying compliance:
- Electronic Implementation: In an era where digital capabilities are ever-expanding, the updated guidelines now support the electronic application of the IFT Seal. This adaptation acknowledges the technological advancements in product labeling and aims to facilitate a smoother compliance process.
- Vector File Accessibility: To aid in the seamless integration of the IFT Seal, manufacturers and distributors can now download a vector file of the seal immediately after the publication of the guidelines. This ensures that the seal can be accurately reproduced and applied across various product formats.
- Flexible Labeling Options: The new guidelines expand the possibilities for where the IFT Seal can be displayed. It can now be physically labeled on product packaging, containers, and manuals. This flexibility enhances visibility and helps ensure transparency in compliance, making it easier for consumers to identify approved products.
Recognizing the operational needs of stakeholders, IFT has set a thoughtful implementation timeline. The new guidelines provide a transition period until July 1, 2025, allowing businesses ample time to align their production lines and marketing strategies with the updated requirements.
