Morocco – ANRT Publishes Updated Type Approval Decision for 2025

ANRT Type Approval

The Moroccan National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) recently announced significant updates to its type approval process. The decision, published on January 20, 2025, introduces new labeling requirements and mandates for displaying Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values on applicable electronic devices.

These updates aim to improve consumer awareness and ensure compliance with international standards. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the changes and how they may impact manufacturers and distributors.

Key Changes to ANRT Type Approval

1. New Labeling Requirements
The updated decision outlines changes to how labels must be displayed on equipment subject to type approval.

  • No Specific Size or Font Requirements: While the label must be affixed in a visible, legible, and indelible manner, ANRT has not defined specific dimensions, font, or text size.
  • Flexibility for Label Placement: If it is not feasible to attach the label directly to the equipment due to size constraints, it may instead be placed on accompanying documents, packaging, or as an electronic label viewable on the device.

2. Obligation to Display SAR Values
From May 1, 2025, all approved or authorized equipment with an emission power exceeding 20 mW, and intended to be used within 20 cm of the user, must display Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) information.

  • Where SAR Must Be Displayed:
    • Directly on the equipment
    • In accompanying documents (user instructions or manuals)
    • On the device packaging
    • Within electronic labels (if applicable)
  • Devices Subject to This Requirement:
The obligation applies to a wide range of devices, including:

    • Mobile phones and smartphones
    • Tablets with SIM, eSIM, or Wi-Fi connectivity
    • Smartwatches with integrated SIM/eSIM
    • Cellular routers and modems
    • Walkie-talkies
    • Laptops with SIM, eSIM, or Wi-Fi
    • DECT and cordless phones

This measure emphasizes user safety by ensuring SAR information is accessible and prominently displayed.

The updated type approval requirements by ANRT underline the importance of safety, transparency, and compliance. As the May 1, 2025, deadline approaches, manufacturers and distributors should act promptly to integrate these changes into their processes.
