Argentina electrical safety certification

On February 26, 2025, Argentina’s Secretary of Industry & Commerce published Resolution 16/2025, Resolution 17/2025, and Resolution 25/2025, officially revoking Resolution 169/2018. These new resolutions introduce updated technical regulations designed to streamline the Electrical Safety Certification process for electrical products in Argentina.

Key Updates in the New Regulations

  1. Postponement of the Safety Mark (QR Code)
    • Resolution 25/2025 delays the implementation of the mandatory Safety Mark (QR Code) requirement until October 1, 2025.
  2. Updated Technical Regulations for Electrical Products
    • Resolution 16/2025 outlines the new technical regulation for the following categories of electrical products:
      • Power supplies and chargers
      • Household electrical appliances
      • Lighting devices
      • Electronic, audio, and video devices
    • Resolution 17/2025 introduces technical regulations for:
      • Machines and tools powered by motors
      • Low voltage machines and tools
  3. Grace Period for Existing Certifications
    • Electrical Safety Certificates issued under Resolution 169/2018 will remain valid for one year, until February 26, 2026.

These regulations align with the Resolution 237/2024, which aims to simplify compliance requirements and facilitate trade for electrical devices in Argentina. The Regulations take immediate effect on February 26, 2025.

What This Means for Manufacturers and Importers

Manufacturers and importers of electrical products must ensure compliance with the new technical regulations set by Resolutions 16/2025 and 17/2025. Companies should take advantage of the grace period to transition smoothly to the new framework. Additionally, businesses should prepare for the QR Code Safety Mark requirement by October 1, 2025.
