Thailand – NBTC Hosts Second Public Hearing on Frequency Allocation

Thailand NBTC

On April 1, 2025, Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) officially invited stakeholders to take part in the upcoming spectrum auction for the 850 MHz, 1500 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2300 MHz frequency bands. These bands are essential for enhancing the country’s international mobile telecommunications infrastructure, particularly as demand for 5G and high-speed mobile services continues to rise.

This announcement follows the formal release of auction criteria and licensing procedures, published in the Government Gazette on April 28, 2025, signaling the regulatory green light for the process.

Why These Frequency Bands Matter

Each frequency band up for auction has distinct strategic value:

  • 850 MHz: Offers excellent coverage and signal penetration—ideal for rural expansion and indoor connectivity.
  • 1500 MHz & 2100 MHz: Well-suited for balancing coverage and capacity in dense urban areas.
  • 2300 MHz: Supports high data throughput, making it vital for 5G rollout and congestion relief in high-demand zones.

By including multiple bands in a single auction, the NBTC ensures balanced opportunities for operators, promoting fair competition and broader infrastructure investment across the country.

A Step Toward Thailand’s Digital Future

This spectrum release is part of a larger strategy by the NBTC to enhance Thailand’s digital ecosystem, enabling the country to:

  • Expand mobile broadband coverage to underserved areas
  • Facilitate new service providers entering the market
  • Align with national goals for smart cities, IoT adoption, and 5G deployment

The Commission remains committed to maximizing public benefit through efficient spectrum use, transparent regulatory processes, and inclusive stakeholder engagement.
