The Radiocommunications (EMC Standards) Notice 2019 came into force on June 4, 2019 and updated EMC Standards in New Zealand. This notice describes the performance standards required to be met by electrical and electronic products (other than licensed radio transmitters covered by the Radio Standards Notice). It also assigns levels of conformity for products, and allowable frequency bands for equipment using radio energy (ISM equipment).
Important changes noted are:
- AS/NZS CISPR 13 and AS/NZS CISPR 22 withdrawn and replaced with AS/NZS CISPR 32
- EN55013 EN55022 and EN55103-1 withdrawn and replaced with EN55032
- CISPR 13 and CISPR 22 withdrawn and replaced with CISPR 32
Products that were tested to an expired standard may continue to be marketed, provided that the standard was in effect at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Conformity. If the product has not been modified, there is no requirement for the product to be re-tested to the amended or replaced standard. In the case that the product has been modified, it may be subject to re-testing, depending on the modification.
The following products are exempt from the requirement to be the subject of a declaration of conformity and labeling:
- those with a power consumption not exceeding 6 nano-watts.
- a spare part intended for use in replacing parts of a product.
- a vehicle that is registered, or able to be registered for operation on a road in accordance with the Land Transport Act 1998.
- military equipment or weapons systems of the New Zealand Defense Force.
- military equipment or weapons systems of the defense force of another country operating in co-operation with the New Zealand Defense Force.
