Azerbaijan ICTA Approves 5945-6425 MHz Band for WAS and RLAN Use

The Information Communication Technologies Agency (ICTA) of Azerbaijan has officially approved the “Conditions of use of the radio frequency band 5945-6425 MHz for Wireless Access Systems (WAS), including Radio Local Area Networks (RLANs).” Announced on October 8, 2024, this move aligns Azerbaijan with global advancements in wireless communication standards and opens the door to enhanced connectivity opportunities.

The approved conditions are based on the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) Decision No. (20) 01 of the Pan-European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT). This decision reflects Europe’s harmonized approach to the allocation of frequency bands for unlicensed wireless technologies, which are critical for modern communications systems.

What This Means for Azerbaijan

The 5945-6425 MHz frequency band, commonly referred to as the 6 GHz band, is integral to supporting next-generation wireless technologies. By regulating its use, Azerbaijan is facilitating the deployment of advanced Wireless Access Systems, including Radio Local Area Networks (RLANs). This step ensures that businesses, public institutions, and private users can benefit from faster, more reliable internet connectivity with reduced interference.

The adoption of the ECC’s recommendations signals Azerbaijan’s commitment to aligning its telecommunication standards with international practices. This harmonization fosters greater integration with global technology ecosystems, enabling more seamless cross-border communication and technological exchange.

Benefits for Users

The approval of these regulations is expected to have several immediate and long-term benefits, including:

  1. Enhanced Wi-Fi Performance: The use of the 6 GHz band supports Wi-Fi 6E and future Wi-Fi generations, offering increased bandwidth, reduced latency, and improved performance in congested environments.

  2. Encouraging Innovation: The availability of this spectrum can accelerate the adoption of smart technologies, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and advanced applications in industries like healthcare, education, and manufacturing.

  3. Economic Growth: By enabling cutting-edge technologies, Azerbaijan can attract investments and boost the digital economy.

This progressive move by the ICTA marks a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s digital transformation journey, ensuring the nation remains competitive in the global technology landscape.
