The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) of The Bahamas has released a public consultation document titled ECS 73/2024 – Roadmap to Enable 5G Deployment in The Bahamas. This critical initiative outlines the steps necessary to introduce Fifth Generation International Mobile Communications technology (IMT-5G or 5G) in the country, paving the way for faster internet speeds, enhanced connectivity, and innovative use cases, particularly in the tourism and national security sectors.
URCA’s focus on stakeholder engagement underscores the importance of collaboration with telecom operators, government entities, and the general public to create a comprehensive regulatory framework that supports the smooth and timely rollout of 5G.
The public consultation on the draft 5G Roadmap invites comments from all stakeholders, licensees, and interested parties. The consultation period is open until 5:00 p.m. on 7 October 2024.
