Botswana - BOCRA New devices to be exempted from Type Approval

On August 1, 2023, the Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BOCRA) released document REF: BOCRA 1/7/13 II (8), which lists new devices exempted from type approval. These devices require an Exemption Letter under the new Type Approval Exemption process.

Devices include:

  • Devices such as personal computers, laptops, tablets, and loT that are embedded with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi transceivers, provided that the Wi-Fi transceiver is Wi-Fi5 Certified TM;
  • Equipment intended solely for reception (such as FM/MW/SW radios, televisions, satellite decoders, and set-top boxes);
  • Devices embedded with RTTE in vehicles (such as Bluetooth, navigation, remote sensors, car keys, etc.);
  • GMPCS Mobile Satellite Terminals bearing the “ITU” mark.
