Brazil – ANATEL Act Nº 7280 Effective June 2021

Act No. 9960 ANATEL 2024

As a reminder, ANATEL has released Act Nº 7280 which introduces major changes in Type Approval for telecommunication devices in Brazil. The new Act will take effect June 1, 2021. You can read further information from our December Blog.

Main changes are as follows:

  • All products that previously required renewal every 1 year, the renewal will now be every 2 years. (devices such as ONTs, WWAN, mobile phones, batteries and chargers for mobile phones, IP phones, and many others.)
  • ANATEL will accept testing reports from 3rd party laboratories, outside the country who are accredited by an ILAC member body. (devices such as OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporative/industrial environment, Digital Multiplex, and many others.)
  • ANATEL will require ISO Certificate (with sworn-in translation if in English) for all Certifications, except for those products whose Conformity Assessment Mode is “Conformity Declaration”
  • Permanent certifications will no longer exist and now need renewal every 3 years. (devices such as, OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporative/industrial environment, Multiplexer, Coaxial cables, some types of Optical cables, and many others.)
  • Some types of products will be allowed approval by Declaration of Conformity (DoC). Examples: Connectors, Broadcasting equipment, RF Power Amplifier for Earth Station, Earth Station Modem, Satellite transceiver, XDSL Filter – Central Splitter and others.
