In a significant update for wireless device manufacturers, ANATEL has officially approved the use of the 802.11be designation in Brazil. This decision allows devices using WIFI 7 / 802.11be technology to list this specific nomenclature on their Certificate of Conformity. The change follows the IEEE’s recent draft approval for the 802.11be standard, marking a milestone in adopting next-generation Wi-Fi technology.
Previously, while ANATEL allowed testing for WIFI 7, certification documents could not explicitly reference “WIFI 7” or “802.11be.” Instead, terms like Modulation + BW (e.g., OFDMA 320MHz) had to be used by OCDs (Designated Certification Bodies) to describe the technology. With this latest update, manufacturers can now directly list “802.11be,” aligning Brazil’s certification process more closely with global standards and simplifying market entry.
WIFI 7 / 802.11be Certification Requirements in Brazil
To comply with ANATEL’s standards for WIFI 7, testing must meet the guidelines specified in ANATEL Act 14448, item 11.7. These requirements mirror those for WIFI 6E, ensuring consistency and adherence to high-performance benchmarks.
In Brazil, the certification requirements for Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) are still under development. The country’s telecommunications regulatory agency, ANATEL, has outlined that currently, products with Wi-Fi 7 technology can be certified using the existing limits set for Wi-Fi 6E. However, the certification cannot explicitly use the 802.11be or Wi-Fi 7 labels until the IEEE formally releases the standard.
This interim approach ensures that devices using Wi-Fi 7’s features can already be certified under a recognized set of rules, focusing on spectrum and power regulations similar to those for Wi-Fi 6E. For now, companies need to comply with the technical requirements set for Wi-Fi 6E to achieve market entry while awaiting further updates once the IEEE ratifies the new standards
