Brazil’s authority in charge for approving telecommunications equipment, ANATEL, has published Act Nº 7280 which defines major changes to the Type Approval requirements for telecommunication devices.
The new Act updates the Reference List of Products for Telecommunications and replaces Act Nº. 2222, of April 20, 2020 and will come into force on June 1, 2021.
Main changes are as follows:
- All products that previously required renewal every 1 year, the renewal will now be every 2 years. (devices such as ONTs, WWAN, mobile phones, batteries and chargers for mobile phones, IP phones, and many others.)
- ANATEL will accept testing reports from 3rd party laboratories, outside the country who are accredited by an ILAC member body. (devices such as OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporative/industrial environment, Digital Multiplex, and many others.)
- ANATEL will require ISO Certificate (with sworn-in translation if in English) for all Certifications, except for those products whose Conformity Assessment Mode is “Conformity Declaration”
- Additions of certain products that previously did not require any renewal, now need renewal every 3 years. (devices such as, OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporative/industrial environment, Multiplexer, Coaxial cables, some types of Optical cables, and many others.)
Products approved by Certification based on Type Testing with Periodic Evaluation approved by Act Nº.2222, of April 20, 2020, must comply with the new rules during the period of maintenance of the certificate of conformity. Products approved by Certification based on Type Testing without Periodic Evaluation will remain valid, as long as there are no changes in the product that require a new conformity assessment.
