Canada – Highlights of ISED’s New RSS-123, Issue 5 for Licensed Wireless Microphones

RSS-248 issue 3

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has updated its Radio Standards Specification to RSS-123, Issue 5, specifically targeting licensed wireless microphones and wireless multichannel audio systems (WMAS). Here’s a brief overview of the essential updates and their implications.

Scope and Application

RSS-123, Issue 5 outlines certification requirements for licensed wireless microphones operating in specific frequency bands. It applies to wireless audio systems and certain FM transmitters, but not to general public broadcasting services.

Transition and Compliance

The standard is effective immediately with a six-month transition period during which certifications under both the previous and new issue are valid. Post-transition, compliance with Issue 5 is mandatory for all relevant equipment in Canada.

Certification and Licensing

Equipment covered under this specification must be certified by ISED or a recognized body and comply with licensing requirements under the Radiocommunication Act. Additionally, all certified equipment must adhere to the general compliance requirements of RSS-Gen.
