On September 26, 2023, The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) published Radio Standards Specification RSS-182, Issue 6, Marine Radio Equipment Operating in the 156–162.5 MHz Band, which outlines the criteria for approving radio equipment for marine operation in the 156–162.5 MHz range.
Section 3.2.3 of the standard has been updated to remove the requirement for a Transport Canada approval letter for portable VHF Radiotelephones (voice only).
