Canada – ISED Releases Radio Standards for AWS, MESs and ATC Equipment

The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has released two new Radio Standards Specifications.

RSS-139, Issue 4 – Advanced Wireless Services Equipment Operating in the Bands 1710-1780 MHz and 2110-2200 MHz, which sets out the requirements for the certification of transmitters used in radiocommunication systems to provide advanced wireless services (AWS) in the bands 1710-1780 MHz and 2110-2200 MHz.

Main changes include:

  • Adding the frequency range 2180 – 2200 MHz
  • Removed the requirements related to the mobile equipment identifier and the international mobile equipment identity number as they are no longer required

RSS-170, Issue 4 – Mobile Earth Stations and Ancillary Terrestrial Component Equipment Operating in the Mobile-Satellite Service Bands, which sets out certification requirements of radio equipment operating in the mobile-satellite service (MSS) bands, including mobile earth stations (MESs) and ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) equipment.

Main changes include:

  • Added requirements for ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) equipment operating in the band 2483.5 – 2495 MHz
  • Updated the frequency bands for mobile earth stations and ATC equipment
  • Removed band 2180 – 2200 MHz

These Standards entered into force at the date of publication on the ISED website with a 6 month transition period.
