A critical update is scheduled for all Spectra systems as Code Drop 57 is rolled out. This update will result in a 6-day shutdown, beginning at 7:00 AM (EST) on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, and continuing until 11:59 PM (EST) on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024.
During this period, Spectra servers will be completely offline, and several essential services provided by ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada) will be unavailable. This update is crucial for improving system functionality, but it requires some planned downtime that impacts key tools.
What Services Will Be Affected During the Shutdown?
During the shutdown, all Spectra database functions, including company search, REL (Radio Equipment List) search, TAR (Telecommunications Apparatus Register) search, and other essential tools, will be unavailable. However, searches for recognized CBs & Labs will remain accessible, as these services are not directly reliant on the Spectra system.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About the Spectra Shutdown
To help the industry prepare, ISED has provided detailed answers to frequently asked questions regarding the shutdown period and its impact on ongoing applications and database listings:
1. Will the REL and other database functions be available during the shutdown?
No, all database functions, including company search and REL & TAR tools, will be offline. Only the search for recognized CBs & Labs will still be functional.
2. What happens to applications that were “granted” before the shutdown?
For applications that were “granted” in Spectra before the shutdown and have no deferred REL listing date, these will appear on the REL before the shutdown. If a deferred listing date falls within the shutdown period, the listing will not appear until the REL is back online after the shutdown. Listings deferred to a date after the shutdown will appear as expected.
3. What about applications still under review when the shutdown begins?
Applications that have not completed ISED internal review before the shutdown will be put on hold. The review and approval process will resume immediately after Spectra systems are back online.
4. Will approved applications be listed on the REL during the shutdown?
If an application is granted before the shutdown, it will appear on the REL once the system is back online. Listings will not be accessible during the shutdown period.
Preparing for the Shutdown:
Ensure that all necessary applications and reviews are completed and submitted before the shutdown date to avoid delays.
By preparing in advance, you can mitigate any disruptions caused by the Spectra system shutdown. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
