China – Interim Provisions on Radio Management of UWB Equipment

China SRRC UWB

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) has published Interim Provisions on Radio Management of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Equipment. These rules are designed to promote the radio industry, enhance spectrum efficiency, maintain order in the airwaves, and ensure frequency compatibility with other radio systems.

Purpose and Scope

UWB radio transmission equipment refers to devices with a signal bandwidth of at least 500MHz. These devices are used mainly for short-distance high-speed wireless data communication, positioning, ranging, and sensing within the 7163-8812MHz frequency range. The regulations cover the development, production, import, sale, and use of these devices.

Compliance and Approval

UWB equipment produced or imported must meet specific technical requirements. Manufacturers and importers must apply for model approval from the national radio regulatory agency to ensure compliance. The relevant devices shall comply with the technical requirements of the appendix on this regulation and are subject to SRRC Approval.

Adaptability and Implementation

The national radio regulatory agency will adjust the regulations based on industrial development and technological progress. Starting August 1, 2025, only UWB equipment meeting the new technical requirements will be approved. Existing UWB equipment with type approval certificates can continue to be used until its end-of-life. These new regulations will replace the previous guidelines issued in 2008.
