RoHS exemption updates

On December 1, 2023, the European Commission issued Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/2669 in the EU Official Journal. This decision mentions the following two standards and modifies Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2191 on Harmonised Standards for wireless communication devices used near to the ear or close to the human body:

  • The purpose of the EN 50360:2017/A1:2023 product standard is to show that wireless communication devices that are used adjacent to the ear comply with the fundamental guidelines and exposure limits pertaining to human exposure to electromagnetic fields in the frequency range of 300 MHz to 6 GHz.
  • Hand-held and body-mounted devices in close proximity to the human body that comply with EN 50566:2017/A1:2023 – Product standard to demonstrate the compliance of wireless communication devices with the fundamental restrictions and exposure limit values related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 6 GHz.
