India – BIS Amendment Regarding Test Reports and Applications for License

On March 8, 2022, The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), released an amendment notification regarding test reports and and documents submitted for grant of license/inclusion. The revised Annexure – 2 includes additions under the scope of license under Scheme II of Schedule II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The Annexure can be viewed here.

Highlights of the Annexure include:

  • Fixed General-Purpose LED Luminaries – Test reports can have up to 10 models max (previously 20 models were permitted)
  • AC or DC Supplied Electronic Control Gear for LED Modules – a single license will be given. Test reports of single type/product such as either AC Supplied Control Gear or DC Supplied Control Gear will be accepted at a time.
  • UPS/Inverter – a single license will be given. Test reports of single type/product such as either UPS or Invertors will be accepted at a time.
  • Wireless Headphone and Earphone – separate licenses will be granted. A single license will be given for Wireless Headphones, and a single license will be given for Wireless Earphones.
  • Power Invertors for Use in Photovoltaic Power System – separate licenses will be granted for photovoltaic power invertors and for grid connected PV invertors.
  • Low-Voltage Switchgear devices – series guidelines are noted as under preparation.
