India – BIS Market Surveillance Under Compulsory Registration Scheme

iCertifi has been notified that the National Standards Body of India (BIS),  is operating the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) based on Scheme II of Schedule II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This scheme is based on self-declaration of conformity by the manufacturers.

According to the notice, the number of licenses under this scheme has grown manifold. Thus, BIS is implementing Market Surveillance procedures to ensure only products complying with the applicable Standard(s) are available/sold in the market. Market Surveillance will be based on the provisions laid down under subparagraph 6 of paragraph 3 of Scheme II of Schedule II BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Procedure for carrying out surveillance:

  • Collection of Surveillance Cost
  • Submission to Authorized Indian Representative
  • Refund
  • Revision of Surveillance Cost
  • Draw of Sample
  • Final Stage of Surveillance
  • Disposal of Samples/Remnants if not Collected

Failure to submit the required information and fees, will be construed as a violation of conditions of license to use or apply SDoC Mark and appropriate action including suspension/cancellation of license may be initiated as per the provisions of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
