Following in the lead of the European Union, India has announced they will move forward to require new mobile devices put on the Indian market to include a USB-C charging port by March 2025. The Standards will apply to devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.
According to Rohit Kumar Singh, secretary, ministry of consumer affairs, “BIS has notified standards for type C chargers and the government will come up with two common types of charging ports for mobiles and wearable electronic devices,”. The objective is to minimize e-waste and and in response to the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP-26. Which calls for ‘mindful and deliberate utilization’ by people worldwide instead of ‘mindful and wasteful consumption’.
