In India, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) is a regulatory body responsible for ensuring the compliance of telecommunications equipment with national standards. On February 27, 2023, TEC published new regulations for Wi-Fi CPE and IP Routers, which will include mandatory testing.
The new regulations mandate that all Wi-Fi CPE (customer premises equipment) and IP routers should undergo mandatory testing for compliance with Indian standards. The testing will be done by TEC-approved testing laboratories. The compliance certificate issued by the testing laboratory will be a prerequisite for obtaining a license to sell the products in India.
The mandatory testing will cover various aspects, including electromagnetic compatibility, safety, and performance. The products will be tested for compliance with the relevant Indian standards, such as IS 13252, IS 616:2010, IS 302-2-25, and IS 1293. The testing will also cover the security features of the products to ensure that they are robust and protect against cyber threats.
Manufacturers and sellers of Wi-Fi CPE and IP Routers will need to comply with the new regulations to continue selling their products in India. Further, OEM’s already certified for these products as per the ER or whose applications are under process before January 7, 2023, are also required to submit the addition of a security parameters report.
