India – Updated Rules For Frequency Bands

The Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC) of the Ministry of Communications in India has published updates to the rules of use for the UWB, 5GHz and SRD bands in India. The published gazettes include:

  • G.S.R. 1047(E) – Use of Low Power and Very Low Power Short Range Radio Frequency Devices (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2018.
  • G.S.R. 1048(E) – Use of Wireless Access System including Radio Local Area Network in 5 GHz band (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2018.
  • G.S.R. 1046(E) – Use of Very Low Power Ultra-wideband Devices (Exemption from Licensing Requirements) Rules, 2018.

In addition to the de-licensed bands listed in the gazettes, it is also noted that 5GHz bands are now permitted both indoors and outdoors.
