Indonesia – KOMINFO Updates 5G and LTE Technical Standards

KOMINFO Updates 5G and LTE

The Minister of Kementrian Komunikasi dan Informatika (KOMINFO) of Indonesia has released a new directive, NOMOR 352 TAHUN 2024, which revises the technical standards for telecommunications equipment and mobile devices adhering to Long Term Evolution (LTE) and International Mobile Telecommunications-2020 (IMT-2020) standards. This move is set to impact manufacturers, telecom operators, and consumers within the Indonesian market.

What’s New in the Regulation: The latest regulation, issued on July 25, 2024, introduces additional frequency bands for devices with Wide Area Network (WWAN) capabilities that are supported by WWAN base stations. Here’s a breakdown of the newly included bands:

  • LTE Technology:
    • Subscriber Station and Base Station: Bands 28 (b28) and 31 (b31)
    • Repeater: Bands 1 (b1), 3 (b3), 5 (b5), 8 (b8), 28 (b28), and 31 (b31)
  • 5G Technology:
    • Subscriber Station and Base Station:
      • Frequency Range 1 (FR1): Band 28 (n28)
      • Frequency Range 2 (FR2): Band 258 (n258)

These additions to the frequency bands are expected to enhance the coverage, capacity, and performance of mobile networks across Indonesia, facilitating better access to mobile services and supporting the rollout of 5G technologies. Telecom operators and equipment manufacturers will need to ensure their products are compliant with these new standards before they can be marketed and deployed within the country.
