Indonesia – Regulatory Update for WLAN Devices

On March 15, 2019 the Directorate General of Posts and Information Resources & Equipment (SDPPI) of Indonesia, announced a regulatory update for WLAN devices operating outside of the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands.

The official announcement Nº 250/KOMINFO/DJSDPPI/SP.04.03/03/2019 states that SDPPI now requires applications for certification for WLAN devices with frequency bands outside of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz must include a declaration letter in their application stating that the applicants are willing to do the following:

  • Lock all frequency bands apart from the 2400 – 2483.5 MHz and 5725 – 5825 MHz bands.
  • Be penalized if it is later discovered that the device does not comply with the applicable regulations.

The reason for the announcement is due to the lack of regulations outside of the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz bands, as well as the addition of more 5 GHz bands currently being planned by SDPPI.

  • 2400 – 2483.5 MHz
  • 5150 – 5250 MHz
  • 5250 – 5350 MHz
  • 5470 – 5725 MHz
  • 5725 – 5825 MHz

Currently, there is no official date of when the frequency allocation will be finalized.
