SDPPI Updated Technical Standards for Short-Range Devices

On May 13, 2024, the General Directorate of SDPPI in Indonesia issued an important update to the technical standards for Short-Range Devices (SRD) with the release of Decree No. 260 of 2024. This new regulatory framework, which will replace the earlier Decree No. 161 of 2019, is set to come into effect on August 11, 2024. It aims to enhance device efficiency, security, and interoperability across a variety of technologies.

Key Changes in the New Decree:

The Ministerial Decree No. 260 of 2024 introduces several significant updates for SRDs, including:

  • RFID Technologies: Expanded use in the 433-434.79 MHz and 2400-2483.5 MHz bands.
  • Ultra-Wideband (UWB): Enhanced standards for broader application.
  • Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs): New regulations for bands at 314-316 MHz, 433-434.79 MHz, and 920-923 MHz.
  • Cordless Telephones and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT): Updated guidelines to improve performance and safety.
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS): Standards to support advanced transportation technologies.
  • Medical and Assistive Devices: Specific bands designated for medical devices and assistive listening technologies.
  • Radar Sensors: Regulation of radar sensor devices in the 57-64 GHz band.

Impact and Implementation:

Businesses and manufacturers involved in the production and distribution of SRDs need to be aware of these changes to ensure compliance by the effective date. The new standards are expected to drive innovation, enhance the reliability of wireless devices, and promote a more interconnected technological environment in Indonesia.
