Jordan – TRC Issues New Regulation on Type Approval for Telecom Equipment

TRC New Regulation on Type Approval

The Telecommunications Regulation Commission (TRC) of Jordan has introduced a new regulation titled “Instructions of the Conditions and Procedures for Obtaining Type Approval of Telecommunication Equipment and Regulating their Entry into the Kingdom.” This regulation will come into force on September 15, 2024.

Key Changes to the Type Approval Process:

  1. Certificate Validity Reduced
The validity period for type approval certificates has been reduced from three years to one year.
  2. New Labeling Requirements
Products must now carry detailed labeling, including:

    • Manufacturer Name
    • Brand
    • Marketing Name
    • Model
    • IMEI (for cellular devices)

These labels must be visible either physically on the product, packaging, or user manual, or electronically within the device’s operating system.

  3. Exemptions from Type Approval
Several types of equipment are now exempt from the type approval process, including:

    • SRDs (Short Range Devices) supporting only Bluetooth.
    • Printers, Cameras, and Desktop Computers without RF features or with low output power wireless radio transmitters.

It’s important to note that previously certified devices will not be affected by these new regulations, providing some continuity for businesses with existing certifications.
