Latin America – Recent Type Approval Delays

Type Approval Delays

Recently iCertifi has been notified of several Type Approval delays in Latin America. Please be assured that all of us at iCertifi are continuing to process applications but lead times are expected to be longer than normal.

  • Brazil – Currently Brazil has a customs strike, any packages going there are delayed 1-2 weeks in clearing and reaching their destination. This will cause a delay in Type Approval as samples are being held up.
  • Chile -The Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL), is still experiencing delays in the certification process due to internal issues. SUBTEL has informed iCertifi that lead times will be effected for issuing Type Approvals but hope to have the situation resolved as soon as possible.
  • Mexico – The Instituto Federal de las Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL) is currently experiencing very long delays due to COVID and a backlog of certificates. In addition, IFETEL will have its annual closure from July 18 – July 29, 2022.
  • Peru – In April 2022, The Minister of the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC) issued a memorandum, requesting the resignation of multiple directors of the Transportation sector and of the Communications sector.
