On January 17th, 2018 the Malagasy Regulating Authority toughened the rules regarding counterfeit, stolen or non-compliant cellular devices.
As a result, any mobile phone that is not in compliance with the IMEI standard will be confiscated, sealed or even destroyed. This measure was put in place to eliminate unfair competition imposed by suppliers of the illegal equipment.
Please note that all telecom devices are subject to type approval in addition to complying to the IMEI standard.
