Malaysia – Allocation of Spectrum Bands for 5G

Malaysia NCEF New Communications Equipment Framework

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has released the Final Report on the allocation of spectrum bands for mobile broadband service in Malaysia.

The Final Report, which can be viewed here, was issued on December 31, 2019 and states MCMC’s final position on spectrum allocation matters, in relation to 700 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz spectrum bands that was published on September 29, 2019.

Upon taking into account all relevant inputs, MCMC has decided on the following:

The frequency bands identified for the roll out of 5G (“5G pioneer bands”) are as follows:

  • 700 MHz band
  • 3.4 GHz to 3.6 GHz (“3.5 GHz band”)
  • 24.9 GHz to 28.1 GHz (“26/28 GHz bands”)

The existing allocation for deployment of current 4G technology will be maintained. This includes maintaining the existing allocation of the 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz bands until December 2021. MCMC will undertake the necessary review of these bands in 2021.
