On February 16, 2023, the Plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) announced the classification of the 5925-6425 MHz band as free spectrum, which will allow its use by the general public without the need for a concession or authorization from the Institute.
The 500 MHz segment of the spectrum will make it possible to offer new services with the technology known as WIFi-6E in Mexico.
It is important to note, within the operating conditions of this band as free spectrum, its use was determined for indoor low power systems and indoor and outdoor very low power systems. However, the determination on outdoor use is not included in the agreement adopted by the Plenary and will be studied by the Institute.
