Mexico – NOM-015-ENER-2018 for Freezers and Refrigerators

The Mexican Standard NOM-015-ENER-2018 for freezers and refrigerators came into effect on June 24, 2019. Currently it applies to refrigerators and freezers with capacities equal to or greater than 550 L.  The Standard establishes the maximum energy consumption limits for refrigerators, household freezers, domestic refrigerator-freezers up to 1104 L and domestic freezers up to 850 L operated by hermetic motor compressors sold in Mexico.

The following are excluded from the scope of application:

  • The products included in the Official Mexican Standard NOM-022-ENER / SCFI-2014 , Energy Efficiency and user safety requirements for self-contained commercial refrigeration appliances . Limits, test methods and labeling
  • Wine coolers, wine cellars, water coolers and water dispensers

The Standard will be applicable according to stages described in Table 1 and can be found here. Stage 1 took effect June 24, 2019. Stage 2 will be in force as of June 18, 2020 and applies to refrigerators and freezers with capacities equal to or greater than 400L. Stage 3 will be in force as of June 13, 2021 and applies to all refrigerators and freezers and will completely replace Standard NOM-015-ENER-2012.
