Effective February 26, 2021, Mexico will implement the new technical standard IFT-012-2019 for maximum radio emissions and specific absorption rate. These technical specifications ensure that RF devices used in close proximity to the head in the frequency range 300 MHz to 6 GHz comply with basic radiofrequency exposure requirements.
IFT-012-2019 applies to products, equipment or devices with radio frequency transmitter or transceiver, that make use of radio spectrum or can connect to a telecommunications network in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 6 GHz and that are used :
- Near the head, particularly near the ear, in the frequency range of 300 MHz to 6 GHz, and / or
- At a distance less than or equal to 200 mm from the human body, in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 6 GHz.
Important notes:
- This regulation is NOT just limited to devices with WWAN function. It is applicable to any kind of product with RF function that has contact with the human body up to 200mm. So this includes desktops, laptops, headphones, etc.
- Previously certified devices that fall under these specifications must comply with the new Regulation.
- Products will require in-country testing by an accredited lab in Mexico.
