The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has released important updates regarding allowed frequencies in Nepal.
The following are the new updates –
- As part of the radio frequency allocation and pricing policy approved by the Radio Frequency Policy Determination Committee, ultra wide band (UWB) is now allowed in Nepal as long as it doesn’t interfere with the country’s current telecom services. Sources in Kathmandu have confirmed that UWB is allowed in the 6.0 – 8.5 GHz frequency band for SRD applications on a non-exclusive and non-protection basis. For all UWB applications, the maximum permitted transmit power (EIRP) of -41,3 dBm/MHz and the maximum peak EIRP of 0 dBm specified in 50 MHz are applicable.
- Nepal (NTA) has allotted the 865MHz to 868MHz spectrum for IoT, M2M, and smart metres operating in non-cellular mode on a non-exclusive and unprotective sharing basis, The Nepal Radio Frequency Policy Determination Committee adopted the radio frequency allocation and pricing policy 2080 in October, which forms the basis for the allocation. The public would be able to examine the policy starting in November.
- The incumbent telecom provider, Nepal Telecom, has started testing 5G services in the Kathmandu area using a 60MHz bandwidth in the 2600MHz frequency range. They will now expand their testing to encompass Birgunj and Pokhara. In addition, the radio frequency allocation and price policy 2080 were adopted in October by the Nepal Radio Frequency Policy Determination Committee. In November, the policy would be made available for public viewing.
