The Communications and Information Technology Commission of Saudi Arabia (CITC), has announced it will be the first country in Europe, Africa and Middle East to make the full 6 GHz frequency band available for Wi-Fi use.

According to the CITC announcement, in terms of internet speed, Saudi Arabia retains its place as the 7th fastest country in the world for mobile internet speeds, averaging 109.48 Mbps in Q4 2020, and 4th in the world for 5G internet speeds with an average of 264.7 Mbps.

The announcement follows CITC’s recent publication of its new spectrum outlook for commercial and innovative use, which aims to improve the spectrum usage and enable new generations of smart wireless technologies by 2025.
