Saudi Arabia’s RoHS Regulations have been published in the Official Gazette on July 9, 2021. The Regulation includes a conformity assessment requirement and submission of the technical file with the product, as well as ISO 9001 certification (or its equivalent).
According to the new Regulation, the SASO restricts six hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment (EEEs) and will enter into effect on January 5, 2022. Please note, for certified products currently placed on the market, there is a grace period until July 9, 2022.
EEEs must prove that they do not exceed the restriction levels below:
- (0.1%) Lead
- (0.1%) Mercury
- (0.01%) Cadmium
- (0.1%) Hexavalent chromium
- (0.1%) Polybrominated biphenyls
- (0.1%) Polybrominated biphenyls ethers
This technical regulation takes a lot of wording from the EU RoHS Directive minus the inclusion of the four restricted phthalates -DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP.
The scope of the Regulation applies to:
- Large and small home appliances
- Information and communication technology equipment
- Lighting equipment
- Electrical and electronic tools and equipment
- Games, entertainment devices, and sports equipment
- Monitoring and control tools
The following items are exempt:
- medical devices
- weapons and military equipment
- aerospace products
- large-scale stationary industrial tools
- large-scale fixed installations
