Saudi Arabia – Upcoming SASO RoHS Implementation for Telecommunication and Information Technology Equipment

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) published SASO RoHS requirements in the Official Gazette on July 9, 2021. The Regulation will be implemented in a roll out phase with Telecommunication and Information Technology Equipment, taking effect December 31, 2022. Products in this category will be required to prove compliance to the RoHS Regulation as a part of Saudi Arabia’s approval requirements.

Products placed on the market before the implementation dates are allowed a grace period and can sell for 365 days. After that time period, they must comply with the Regulation or they will be recalled. It is important to note that as a part of SASO certification, the validity period is one year.

  • Small Home Electrical Appliances – July 4, 2022
  • Large Home Electrical Appliances – October 2, 2022
  • Telecommunication and Information Technology Equipment – December 31, 2022
  • Lighting Equipment – March 31, 2023
  • Electrical and Electronic Tools and Equipment – June 29, 2023
  • Toys, Entertainment Devices, and Sports Equipment – September 27, 2023
  • Monitoring and Control Tools – December 26, 2023
