Following the conclusion of a request for proposals to broaden the area of current operating concessions, Senegal’s L’Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications et des Postes (ARTP) announced that Sonatel (Orange Senegal) had been “provisionally” granted a 5G licence.
Abdou Karim Sall, the director general of ARTP, stated the primary goal of the call for tenders was to choose an operator capable of delivering dependable and effective 5G infrastructure as soon as possible, in order to meet the expanding demand for connectivity and communication in Senegal. He added: “Following review of the submitted offers, the committee for the evaluation of technical and financial offers recommended to the Selection Committee to retain Sonatel, which was the only applicant to have satisfied the requirements set out by the regulations. In the upcoming days, Sonatel will sign the modification to the concession agreement and specifications, which includes additional 5G coverage requirements.
