Key Changes in Radio Equipment Conformity Assessment for 2025
Effective January 1, 2025, the Regulatory Body for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) will no longer conduct conformity assessments for radio equipment. This change, driven by Article 32, paragraph 4 of the Rulebook on Radio Equipment (Official Gazette of RS, No. 24/24), signifies a major shift in regulatory responsibilities within the radio equipment industry.
RATEL’s Role Transition in Conformity Assessments
Starting January 1, 2025, RATEL will cease its role as a conformity assessment body for radio equipment. However, requests for conformity assessments or Certificates of Conformity submitted on or before December 31, 2024, will be processed under the current Rulebook and established procedures.
Stakeholders who have submitted requests by the December 31 deadline can rest assured that their assessments will be completed within the existing regulatory framework, ensuring a smooth transition and continued compliance.
Responsibilities of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs)
From January 1, 2025, Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) will assume full responsibility for assessing conformity and issuing related certifications. CABs must adhere to the Rulebook on Radio Equipment and Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (Official Gazette of RS, No. 11/12) and apply for appointment with the competent authority as required by Article 32, paragraph 3 of the Rulebook.
Impact on Industry Stakeholders
The regulatory changes will significantly affect manufacturers, importers, and distributors of radio equipment. Transitioning to CABs for conformity assessments means that stakeholders need to prepare in advance to meet compliance requirements.
One key consideration is that certifications issued by different CABs may slightly alter product labeling requirements. For example, the certification body’s ID is a mandatory component of the product label, which could necessitate adjustments in labeling practices.
