Sri Lanka – TRCSL Enforces Mandatory IMEI Registration for Mobile Devices

Sri Lanka TRCSL

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has introduced mandatory IMEI registration through the Device International Mobile Equipment Identity Registration System (DIRBS) to combat illegal and non-compliant mobile devices. This system enhances national security by preventing the use of unregistered, substandard, or unauthorized devices on Sri Lanka’s mobile networks.

Key IMEI Registration Rules

  • Mandatory for All SIM-Enabled Devices – Every mobile device must be registered with TRCSL.
  • Registration Required After January 29, 2025 – Devices connected from this date onward must be registered to access local networks.
  • Unregistered Devices Will Be Blocked – Networks will deny service to any device without a registered IMEI number.
  • Quality Assurance – This process ensures that all electronic devices in Sri Lanka meet certification and quality standards.

Devices that were connected before January 28, 2025, are exempt from this requirement and will not need to be registered.
