Turkey Implements New Regulation on Market Surveillance for Online Product Sales

The Ministry of Trade in Turkey has introduced a new Regulation on Market Surveillance and Control of Products Offered to the Market through Remote Communication Tools, published on October 30, 2024. This forward-looking Regulation, set to take effect on January 1, 2025, establishes clear procedures and principles for the oversight of products sold via online and other remote communication channels.

The Regulation addresses two key aspects of market oversight:

Conditions for Market Offerings and Sale Announcements: It defines the requirements for businesses offering products via remote communication tools, such as e-commerce platforms, mobile apps, and telemarketing. These include compliance with product standards, accurate product descriptions, and proper labeling to prevent misleading practices.

  2. Market Surveillance and Inspection: It outlines the responsibilities of authorities in monitoring and inspecting products sold remotely to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
