The Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS) is a certification program designed to ensure that products and services meet the relevant UAE standards. It is administered by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) and was established under the authority of Federal Law No. 28 of 2001. This scheme mandates that products undergo testing and certification to verify compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards before they can be sold in the UAE market.
Upon successful completion of a product conformity assessment, regulated products intended for import or sale in the UAE will be issued a Certificate of Conformity (CoC). This certificate confirms that the products meet applicable standards and allows them to enter the market.
The UAE has introduced a new conformity mark under the Emirates Conformity Assessment System (ECAS), which signifies compliance with national safety and quality standards for a wide range of products, including electrical and electronic devices. Administered by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), this mark is essential for products entering the UAE market. ECAS certification involves certification by ESMA-approved bodies, ensuring that products meet both UAE and international standards.
Under the new Ministerial Resolution No. 137 of 2024, dated 16th September 2024, the updated ECAS LVE logo for IT and audio products is the Compliant mark, as shown below:
To ensure a smooth transition, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has outlined the following timeline:
-
Existing Products: Products already in the local market must comply with the new requirements within 12 months, by September 14, 2025.
-
New Products: All new products entering the UAE market must meet the updated standards within 6 months from the resolution’s publication, by March 15, 2025.
Products that achieve conformity are registered in the ESMA database and are cleared for sale in the UAE. Failure to obtain an ECAS certificate can lead to shipment delays or rejections at customs. This conformity mark guarantees that consumers receive products that are safe, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly. The process ensures that only high-quality products enter the UAE market, reflecting the country’s commitment to enhancing public safety and promoting sustainable practices
