As a reminder, The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has officially shut down the 2G network (GSM) in the UAE as of December 2022.
According to Resolution 10 of 2022 issued on June 9, 2022, type approval procedures for devices operating on the 2G network as well as selling of such devices on the market was suspended on June 30, 2022. However, the TDRA allowed a grace period for telecom service providers to stop operating in the less effective network. According to the authority, the decision comes as part of TDRA’s continuous efforts in deployment of 5G in the UAE.
