Vietnam Opens 6 GHz Band and Expands WPT Range Under New Circular

Circular No. 01/2025/TT-BKHCN

Vietnam is taking significant steps to modernize its radio frequency regulations and align with global wireless technology trends. Under Circular No. 01/2025/TT-BKHCN, issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, two major frequency updates have been introduced, paving the way for the adoption of next-generation wireless communication and power technologies.

6 GHz Band Now Available for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7

One of the headline changes in the circular is the official allocation of the 5925–6425 MHz band for license-exempt use by WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and RLAN (Radio Local Area Network) devices. This allocation is a major regulatory milestone, opening the door for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices in Vietnam.

With this move, Vietnam joins a growing list of countries that have embraced the 6 GHz band to:

  • Support higher data rates and reduced latency,

  • Enable more reliable and faster wireless connections in dense environments,

  • Lay the groundwork for next-generation smart homes, offices, and cities.

Technical requirements, including power limits and emission standards, are in line with ETSI EN 303 687, ensuring compatibility with international norms while safeguarding other spectrum users.

Expanded Range for Wireless Charging: 315–400 kHz

In a boost to wireless power transfer (WPT) technology, the circular also expands the previously limited frequency allocations to cover the entire 315–400 kHz range. This change enhances support for wireless charging systems, especially for:

  • Consumer electronics,

  • IoT devices,

  • Low-power industrial equipment.

This wider allocation replaces older narrowband permissions (previously scattered between 326.5–373.5 kHz) and gives manufacturers more flexibility to innovate and deploy efficient wireless charging solutions.

Devices operating in this range must meet updated emission control standards, helping to prevent interference and maintain electromagnetic compatibility with other services.

Implementation and Industry Responsibilities

As implementation progresses, stakeholders such as manufacturers, importers, and technology providers should closely review these changes to ensure timely compliance and leverage new opportunities in the Vietnamese market. This Circular will come into effect on May 15, 2025.
